About Nomad Style

nomads Untied to the land, undaunted by national borders, indifferent to political differences, the nomads of the world move freely thruout vast regions of the Earth. Theirs is a hard existence dedicated to eking out a mere sustenance out of the often unyielding land.

As they roam the land like their ancestors have done for uncounted thousands of years, the nomads become attuned to nature and its awesome beauty. They observe the glory of the dawn and the majesty of the sunset with their  captivating splendor. They come to know the different shades, hues and varieties of color better than anyone else.

From the meadows and valleys of Afghanistan to the deserts of India’s Rajestan, to the oases of Arabia, to the sands and savannas of Africa, nomads of the world share a unique sense of beauty. This perspective is reflected in the jewelry and the costumes of the nomads.

NooriaAs I was growing up in Afghanistan, I had the good fortune to observe the Afghan nomads from a close proximity. I used to watch nomad women at work and at leisure. Their colorful costumes and their festive jewelry would mesmerize me. This fascination with nomads and their lifestyle continued well into my adulthood.  As I studied design, I concentrated on the styles of nomads.

My diverse background began with a stint in fashion illustration design courses, which led me to the love of jewelry making. I began traveling to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the far east to create pieces that are one-of-a-kind.

Today, I am the largest importer of Afghan textiles, nomad crafts from Afghanistan, Afghan classic fashions, ethnic fabrics, embroideries and one of a kind dresses from Afghanistan  on the West Coast, USA. I am also a prolific designer of wedding (nikah) dresses inspired by the styles of Afghanistan. I create one of a kind dresses for special occasions using only the finest Indian and Thai silk, and authentic embroideries of the Pashtun, Baluch (Beluchi), Uzbek, Turkoman and Hazara peoples of Afghanistan.I also design dresses inspired by the dresses and tunics of the Swat Valley,Swat Kohestan (Kohistaan, Kohestaan), Madyan, Chitraal and Nooristan(Nooristaan/Noristan).

I consider myself a guardian of the classic tribal culture of Afghanistan and South Asia. I collect hard to find tribal and hard to find ethnographic items, restore and clean them and offer them to collectors and Afghan and western women of sophistication and good taste at reasonable prices. I am proud to say that I am the largest collector of authentic nomad and ethnc costumes from Afghanistan and Central Asia.
